I’ve been trying to be good. Trying to eat healthy and not overindulge. But I gotta admit it, when I get stressed out, overwhelmed or have a ton of work, the first place I head is my local convenience store for a round of junk food. It’s a terrible habit, especially since I’m pretty healthy in most ways. I’m a vegetarian, I work out, I meditate, write in my journal…all kinds of good stuff. But kick up the work load a notch or two, and it’s Dr. Pepper and a bag of Cheetos.
This habit gets even worse in Japan. There’s too many amazing flavors of junk food just waiting to help me in my hour of need. My favorite? Kit Kat. Oh, I’m a sucker for this candy bar. The last time I left here, I sacrificed certain well-loved items to make room in my luggage for several boxes of exclusive Japan only flavors of Kit Kats. Yes, the Red Boots went. In their place, Wasabi, Soy Sauce, Corn, Dark Chocolate Passion Fruit, Green Tea and Fuzzy Strawberry Kit Kats. I actually think it was a pretty good trade off.
Tonight I’m feeling a little overwhelmed with my work load and all the projects on my plate. Between my two new part time jobs in Japan, clients and my new business, I’ve got a lot going on. Thank heavens there’s Dark Chocolate Biscuit Kit Kat in the stores right now. That and a carton of coffee with milk, and I’m ready to hit it.
So, what’s your favorite stressed out vice??

Sara,
I love this post! And can totally relate to munching on junk food in times of stress. I’m more of a salty girl myself, so turn to chips for my pick me up. As a traveler, I love checking out the different flavors around the world. I think my favorite is Jamon in Spain, but I’ve found lots of good ones…wrote about it here: http://diary.thepurplepassport.com/global/other-global-cities/jamon-flavored-chips-off-the-old-block-in-costa-del-sol-spain
Thanks Jenn!! I’m actually more of an umami kind of a gal. You know, that 5th flavor that is barely acknowledged as a flavor. In English, say savory, but I just say delicious!!! Kim chi, soy sauce, mushrooms…I could go on.
But when my sweet tooth kicks in (or the stress level goes up), I do reach for the chocolate.
Loved you post on potato chip flavors, there’s some pretty good ones over here too. I’ll have to do more research, but I am a fan of the Nori Seaweed chips.
Great to (virtually) meet you!! Always excited to meet a fellow wanderer.
Have you seen the video where blood shoots out of the kit kat bar? It fixed my Kit Kat cravings. Of course it just turned me to chocolate covered almonds. Hmmm Meji chocolate almonds.
I totally missed out on seeing the blood squirting thing and I’m not even going to google it. I want nothing to dissuade me from my love of Kit Kats.
Meiji Almonds are a great alternative though!! Good thinking!
My next favorite Japanese candy bar is Black Thunder. Have you had them??
